I have been ripping jeans lately. I bought a few from Goodwill in Florida. I was surprised by so many cool jeans I found at Goodwill in Delray Florida. For USD 4.99 I could rip them without worrying I will fail and ruin a costly jeans.  Can't wait to share some pictures with you.

And, what a skinny ripped jeans without a pair of 'killer pumps" right? Our anniversary was just a week a go. Steven told me I could buy what ever I want with the budget he gave me. I have not bought anything yet. I am thinking.....yes,  you know what I am thinking!!

From what I remember this Lavender Lemon Soda is to die for; Especially when it is hot out there. This is from my own blog post, posted about a year a go. I have been thinking about making this again lately. Hhhmmm.....!!!

I am Asian. Can't help myself to have this drink. Must make this before summer ends. I can smell the fresh lemon grass on the tip of my nose right now.

Open Heart Sandwich {with Flower Petals} + Home Made Place Mat

Have you ever feel like this; when you woke up feel like having a breakfast but none is good for your appetite?  Well today I felt just like that. It was almost lunch time anyway! So with what ever I still have in the fridge I created these delicious pretty meal for lunch, oh...for brunch! Usually I do not eat a lot for lunch so a couple of these just did good for a hungry stomach. And it was a complete lunch meal with a cup of hot tea.

This is actually an oat nut bread that I cut using a heart shape cutter. Then spread some fig jam followed by sprinkle of edible flower petals on  top. The white spread is petal flowers cream cheese spread. And oh...it was so delicious. Recipe; here! I think these open heart sandwiches are good for a fun tea party with friends. I can already imagined these heart sandwiches being displayed on a pretty cake stand with lots of flower petals.

I am very happy how the place mat that I created turned out to be. It's fun and pretty. Tutorial; here!

There is nothing new about eating flowers. It can be traced back thousand years a go. If you are interested in learning about the history of eating flowers, you can find out {here}.

Place Mat with Tassels {DIY & Tutorial}

This was an experiment that I wanted to do since a while a go. I had a remnants and pieces of fabric from when I created a give away decorative pillow cases a while back {here}. I thought why don't I make it a place mat out of these fabrics.  Then I thought why not attach the tassels on the 2 sides of the place mat? So here I created one place mat that I wanted. I am very happy with it. I am thinking to do it with many more with these fabrics {below} that I got from Calico Corners a while a go. It would be fun to use them for outdoor dining with different color of place mats.

What you need;
~ Cotton fabrics with different patterns and colors
~ Embroidery thread to match the color of fabrics
~ Sewing needle and thread
~ Sewing machine

1. Arrange the stripe of fabrics. (If you prefer to use different fabrics) This has to be a few inches larger than the actual size of place mat.
2. Using sewing machine; join them together.
3. Iron out the back of joining fabrics and draw the actual size of your place mat.
4. Folded the in seam. Iron out again and stitch them up.

1. It should look like this. And this is the actual place mat.
2. Mean time; create the tassels. You need about 12 or 13 tassels on each side.
Note: I am using the palm of my 4 finger to wrap thread around for about 13 times. When slipped it out of your 4 fingers it will look like a bunch of loop. Squeeze the loop so that they will be long in shape then fold it in half.  Then close to the end of the tassel is where you secure with a single embroidery thread a few times and tie a knot. Mine is the one with  black thread. The tip of the tassel is still in loop, you need to cut them to make it a fringe single thread. Or you can make a tassels from this site; (here).
3. Then attached the tassels by sewing it with hand to the back on each side one by one. Note: I do not know how to better attach these tassels. I was thinking to cover it with a piece of fabric but then it is to thick to run through a sewing machine. If you know how to do it please let me know because I am planning to make more of this place mat in the future. Thank you so much!

What do you think? I think it looks adorable. Imagine a few of these place mats with different colors of pattern and tassels. I think it would be fun to use out door.

These are the remnants fabric I bought from Calico Corners in Delray Florida last winter. They are huge too! And enough to create a big size decorative pillow case although it has to be good for only one side and use different pattern or fabric on the other side. Still the remainder I could use for above place mat.

Thank you so much for stopping by!

Journal/Collage {August 2013}

For this month's journal/collage; I wanted  more of an expression journal/collage. Playing with words, emotion and whimsical images are the key to this journal/collage page. I love the look of feeling of poetry, soft and hard glued side by side together. An old book I found from a flea market is binding these journal/collage pages together.
This is my first page, hopefully it will turn out into something that I enjoy doing and be a part of me for a long time to come.

Jewelled Vintage Clutch {DIY}

I have been owning this simple vintage black silk clutch for as long as I can remember. I think I bought it at a flea market in Manhattan, New York when I just arrived  about 17 years a go.

But when I saw a page from a magazine showing jeweled clutches recently; I immediately thought about dressing up the clutch to a similar style. For a long time I did not know what to put on the simple black clutch until I saw a seller selling the most amazing varieties sizes and colors of vintage glass beads on Ebay.

Now the clutch is fun, elegant and rich looking clutch to wear to any party at any time. I love how it looks with the colorful vintage beaded glass on. It is like a real ruby, emerald, saphhire, amber, turqoise and opal decorated this simple clutch.

You can see how I attached the beads on this video {here}

Flower Petals Orange Cake

My fascination of cooking with flowers continues when I saw these edible flowers on the vegetables section in Fairway yesterday. Since they are quite rare; I immediately bought 3 packages. They were quite inexpensive for only USD 2.99 per package.

I adapted the recipe from a book called Cooking With Flowers by Miche Bacher of Mali B Sweets (here).
And I was not disappointed! It taste so fruity and yes, orange! The flower petals did not affect the taste of the cake at all, it just adds a hint of peppery and nutty or earthy taste to it.  I would definitely make this cake again for a fun girl party one day!

I think this cake looks adorable. Don't you think?

::Recipe::

Flower Orange Cake

~ 3 cups sugar
Zest and juice of 1 orange (I added grapefuit juice too)
~ 4-1/2 cups cake flour
~ 1 tsp baking soda
~ 1/4 tsp salt
~ 1-1/2 cups (3 sticks) unsalted butter at room temperature
~ 9 eggs
~ 1-1/2 cups full-fat Greek Yogurt
~ 1/2 cup calendula or other edible flower petals (from about 25 flowers) plus extra to decorate
Note: Mine was not calendula. I did not know their names are. They came in a small package with different flowers inside.
~ Flower frosting.
*Use petals of a single color or try any mix of colors that you like.

1. Preheat oven to 325 deg. Line the bottom of three 8 inch round cake pans with parchment paper and coat them with nonstick spray.

2. Whip sugar and zest in a food processor for 2 to 30 seconds, or until it releases a sweet orange aroma.

3. Stir flour, baking soda, and salt together in a bowl. In the bowl of a mixer, beat butter and orange sugar on medium speed for 5 minutes, or until light and fluffy.

Don't skimp on sifting. It really does matter, especially for cakes and other tender baked goods. Flour gets compacted while sitting in the counter waiting for you to use it, so it needs a bit of fluffing before measuring. If you don't sift, the same volume of flour will weigh a lot more and cause your cake to be heavier and denser.

4. Beat in eggs one at a time, scraping the sides of the bowl so the mixture is smooth. Reduce speed to low and add half the flour mixture; then mix in yogurt and orange juice. Beat in the remaining flour mixture and flower petals.

5. Distribute batter among the pans and bake for about 50 minutes, or until a metal tester comes out clean. Let cakes cool to room temperature in pans and then turn them out and flip them upright. Let them cool for at least 1 hour and up to over night; after an hour, tightly cover each layer in plastic wrap and store at room temperature until ready to frost.

6. Mark the lowest spot in the top of the first cake layer. With a serrated knife, use a slow sawing motion and circle around the cake, cutting off the uneven top.  Repeat with remaining layers.

7. Place the first layer cut-side down on your serving dish. Spread frosting on top with an offset spatula or a good flexible spatula. Top with another upside-down layer pf cake and repeat the process twice more. Frost the outside of the cake with the remaining frosting.

You  might need to put a layer of crumb coat; put only a thing layer around the cake and refrigerate up to an hour. Take it out and finish frosting.

8. Decorate with flower petals of your choice.

Note: It is always better to bake cake and take out from the oven 5 to 10 minutes less than what the recipe instruction. My experienced in the past I always ended up with a dry cake. When this is happened my rescue to make the cake moist again is and for this cake: mix orange juice and (I happened to have grape fruit) juice. Pour 1 or 2 tbsp of liquor of your choice mine is rum) then poke the cake on the top and pour the fruit juice mix. It will help to moisten the cake.

Flower Frosting
~ 1 package cream cheese
~ 1 cup confectioners' sugar
~ 2 tbsp milk
~ 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
~ 1/2 to 1 cup flower petals
Beat all ingredients in a mixer until there is no lumps.

~~oo00oo~~

Good luck Everyone!
