Banana Nutella Bread

There are so many version recipes of Banana Bread. And Banana Bread is one of the most easiest and most favorite desert for everyone. This one in particular has Nutella in it. I love banana and I love Nutella. In the past; I had eaten cut up banana pieces topped with Nutella for breakfast almost everyday. Until I had enough of it and stop having it for quite some time now.

So when I found the Banana Nutella recipe found on my Pinterest board; I just had to try this recipe out. Well, prior to that I had Banana Nutella Bread at a friend's home. And it was delicious.

I must say this is the most delicious and easiest to make Banana Bread. It is moist and the combination of chocolate Nutella the rich banana is just melt in your mouth without being too sweet.

I will not write down the recipe but you can check it out here on my Banana Deserts Recipes collection on Pinterest. (And the recipe, here) The only difference was I added 2 tablespoons of canola oil and omit the 2 tbsp milk.

Happy Baking Everyone!

Why & What "photography" is to me.

I am writing about this based on my experiences. From the beginning until now. I feel it is always an interesting topic on how some one who never went to photography school has becoming a photographer who get paid by taking picture of people.  It takes a great dedication to get where I am now. My goal is only to share my experiences and my dream in the future as a photographer.

But,
before I answer the question, let me clear a few things first.

Taking pictures professionally and as a hobby are two different things.

When you are taking picture as a hobby, you are pleasing yourself. But when you are taking picture of a client and as a business; you are pleasing others. That's the different. I had been taking pictures for a hobby for almost 2 years using DSLR camera before I jumped into a business. And taking picture of people as a business is not as easy as most people think. You know why? I will tell you why. After being in this business for little over a year and have taken pictures of all kind of people and ages; newborn, senior, maternity, couple,etc, I can officially claimed that this business is not and easy business.

I will break down this subject in two categories.

1. Photography as a business.

A. MARKETING
(I will talk about this on a different post)

B. GET BOOKED AND ON LOCATION
a. After both parties agreed about date and price, you have to scour a location. This means you have to find a location that suitable for your type of photography ( I am an outdoor natural light photographer so a park with a lot of tree lines is very important). It is better to do it on a different day than during the actual photo session day. The reason is you do not want to be exhausted during the shooting if you do it the same day. I like to do a shoot in a park and in a garden. Flowers and textured are pretty as back ground it gives color and depth to your images. You can look for a textured on a building wall.

b. During the session day, you have to drive to the location. In New York, it is not easy. You have to arrive 1-1/2 to -2 hours prior; since to find the right parking spot is not easy. If you are not extra careful you will get a ticket! It will cost you USD 30-60 depend on the location. There is a chance that you probably do not park near the location; so with your photography gears you have to walk to get to the location.
c. On the location, you have to discuss the poses with your client. And strategically what you are going to do for example; shoot the wife first standing up with this position and that position, then with the husband both standing up. Both sitting on the bench, etc. You can not depend on themselves as far as poses, etc., if you want their pictures to look decent and pretty. Searching through google about poses before the shooting is always a help.
d. During the shoot; you constantly moving around trying to get the right angle. Sometimes you need to bring a step as you want to shoot from above like I do. And sometimes you need to sit on the ground. And you need to come up to the client to direct where their body suppose to face, or little detail like dresses, hands. hair, etc. So you move a lot. And under the hot sun. Some client are easy; you do not need to direct them. But most clients need some direction.
e. When this is done, you have to pack up your gear and carry them back to your car.
f. In New York there will be chance that you will hit a traffic on the way home. In a normal distance between my home and to location it will almost take 1-1/2 hours to get home. And after constantly moving physically, the last thing you want to be is in a traffic for hours. It will adds up the tiredness. By the time you arrived home you will ended up with all total spending hours of 2 hours (driving to get to location I do not like to be late) + 1-1/2 hours (shooting on location) + 1/2 hours (explaining when the cd is ready plus payment) + 2 hours (walking to the car and driving home) = 5 hours all together from leaving your home and until you arrived home. Sometimes I am wondering if all of these hard works are worth the money. BUT, this is my passion. Passion can not be bought by money. Passion is happiness, and happiness is what I always looking for.
Of course every person is different. One is stronger than the other. For me, I am a little on the weak side. One activity in a day is more than enough for me. Later I need a good rest; good sleep and chill at home. It will take me one day to recover until I am on the right track again.

C. EDITING
Then comes the editing. I am using Photoshop  Light room. I usually take 500 to 700 pictures. Usually about 100 or more of these pictures are the best ones. Each of those 100 images need to be edited, paint them with brush that has different functions. The editing process will take about 1- 2 hours, depends on the number of pictures. There are none of my pictures that you see; in blog, Facebook, other social media has not gone through Photoshop Lightroom and Photoshop Element. All of them has gone through these two photo editing programs. Using these two programs is a constant learning. I am still learning. Still finding that one perfect editing suit to my signature style. Soon, I need to buy Photoshop CS, but this photo editing program  is very expensive, really, like USD 650.00 for new. So I must save some fund to buy this program.

D. PACKAGING
When all the photos has been edited through these Photoshop programs and they are all look gorgeous, they are ready to be sent to a client. The next step you need to package them beautifully. You can not just put the CD in an envelope and send them away. No, you can't do that. It has to be interesting and beautiful,  everything right down to the very last thing; sending the image to your client. They have to know that you love the job they gave you. They have to know that you love your job more than anything. And, you have to make  them feel that  whole process of taking picture with you  is 'a great experience' for them.  From the very first time contacting you to the last like presenting the images to them. You have to make them feel  happy and satisfied that they will refer you to their friends or  they will contact you again for another gig. And that is what I am going for. I suggest your packaging has to be in theme with your branding. The color has to be the same as well.
(I will talk about this more in another post and in the future)

For the above reason that's why some professional photographer charge much more than the other. Or in general they are expensive. Now you know why.  It is a lot of work, continuous learning and not to mention the expensive equipment you have bought or equipment you need to add or buy.
To some people, they are truly realize that capture in the moment that  can not be repeated ever again is very important to them. Like maternity. Wouldn't you like to be photographed while you are 8 months pregnant? Oh, I would. Or, wouldn't you want your 7 days old new born baby to be photographed? Your 7 days old baby only be 7 days old  in one day a life time. As they grow older every day, right?
Yes and it's true that you can take picture out of your pocket camera. But let me tell you it is not the same. Once the damaged has been done, it will be impossible to re-create that moment and how sorry you will be later on. You need someone who is professional about this. Using the DSLR; knowing what mode to use under what light condition, photo editing, composition, styling seeing the light and lighting. It is an art. Not many people know these things. I went to school for Fine Art and later Styling. Photography is a hobby turned business and passion of mine, what I learned from 4 years bachelor's program in school I incorporated to what I have learned each time I took picture of anything. In fact, I incorporate through the whole process of photography. From the beginning all the way to the end. The process is one big art on a canvas. To me it's the prettiest thing, mentally and physically. So it is entirely up to you how you want to paint your canvas. It is entirely up to you how you want to be as A PHOTOGRAPHER. The ball is on your court.
You can have the best DSLR camera, but without photo editing program like Photoshop, your pictures won't compete with the rest of us, photographers in the world. Let it be an amateur or professional. Ask any professional photographer if their images straight from the camera. I bet you their answer is NO!

2. Photography as a hobby.
It is always a good thing to learn to take beautiful pictures by taking picture as a hobby. For example you can take picture of things around your home like flower in a vase, your pet, your cooking, your kids or family, etc to start with. This is how I start my business and as you can see on my blog in the early days. Once you are comfortable with your camera then you can learn about Photoshop, and so on.
Taking picture as a hobby is always a rewarding. For me, it makes me happy. It motivates me to be creative. It challenge me to do different thing each time. So my day is always full of adventure and excitement. I love document what I love around me through photography. That's why I am blogging in the first place. Then many doors will start to open up.
I became a photographer just by accident; while taking pictures of my friend's little girl in Central Park New York. Since then, I have been learning as much as I could and whenever I have the time to better myself to create beautiful images through my camera. I figured if I do not get booked or do not generate a decent income; it still makes me happy. And that is what most important for me.

~~~o0o~~~
So,
to  answer the above question; to me, 'photography' is an ART. It is a platform where I can express myself in a day to day life. In photography I can incorporate all aspects about art; composition, color, lighting, subject matter, texture, etc. It gives me so much joy and happiness to go through the process of taking picture from the beginning to the end. Especially seeing the smile on my client's face. Seeing myself smiling looking at the picture of flower I took and stylized.
If you are thinking about learning photography, these are pretty much what you need to learn. Take your time to learn each area about photography. Dedicate yourself to it and keep on practice. Once you get to the breaking point of being booked; than you know that your photography is worth the dollar. Then you can develop from there; buying new lenses, lighting equipment, etc.
 I learn as I go. But those elements I was talking about are crucial in photography. I am not saying I am the expert in photography. But I have seen most of my client's happy face when I presented their images. And it is rewarding. It's more than the amount of dollar you have received; it is a happy feeling beyond words.
I hope, there is something you can learn here. I am open to all comments and input about this topic. Please give comments as I love critics and comments. Thank you All so very much.
As a photographer wearing a comfortable outfit on the set is very important.
The styling board I created is for a photographer to wear on the set are an example of what I like to wear during a photo session.
I'd like to be able to move freely because sometimes you need to move around in an awkward position. And sometimes you need to sit on the ground.
As we are on the set walking around taking pictures for hours; a good pair of shoes is a must. For me a loose fitted shirt is the best. I do not want to be too baggy either but I do not want to be very fitted as well. A cotton blend is my favorite choice as I always sweat a little. It depends on the season. If it is during winter; I want it to be warm but the material must breath and thin  so I won't get too hot in it but keeps me warm.
I have a very long hair. During a session I never  let my hair loose down. I always style it in a chignon or a bun. A good stretch pair of pants is always the best but not too tight. Sometimes I tucked the shirt in but other times I let it out.
I limit my make up to a natural color. A light pink lip gloss is my choice and the eye shadow is in brown with light  golden highlight is my choice of make.
So these are more less the kind of outfit  I am wearing when shooting a photo session. As a photographer what are your favorite outfits during a photo session?
Turks and Caicos Vacation
Moving into a new home is a lot of work and tiring. And so does to Steven, my husband, it finally took a toll on him. He has been contracting and managing the workers for the last 5 months. And I have seen him going back and forth 2 or 3 times a day almost every day to Home Depot to get supplies. So we, especially him desperately need a vacation. Since Steven's child hood friend recently got a job managing a high end hotel in Grace Bay, Turks and Caicos and invited us to come and visit him; we jumped into the opportunity to relax for  a few days.
And what a great short vacation it was!
I have never seen such fine grain sandy beaches like the one around Turks and Caicos. It is just like a powder. And the water is  beautiful warm with different shades of blue mixed with green so it is aqua in color. Just breathtakingly beautiful!
The Turks and Caicos islands consists of the larger Turks island and the smaller Caicos islands. TCI is under British territory. More infos; (here).
I have not been in the Bahamas Island before except in Puerto Rico and what I love about it is that people are happy and love dancing, eating and enjoy the island life. And that is what we did.
The highlight of the whole trip was the snorkeling trip and let me say this, if you are planning to go to Turks and Caicos; take a snorkeling trip. It is so much fun! I have not been snorkeling for many years, and I love every minute of it while in the water. Not only that I saw many colorful corals and fish but it feels wonderful just float on the surface of the warm bluest water and like seeing a movie under neath you. Colorful fish swimming around, looking for food, hiding amongst the corals, the beautiful contour of the ocean bed. It was relaxing and rejuvenating. I wish I could do it the next morning all over again.
The captain of the boat called 'Mo' and his assistant called "Dre' were so funny. Both of them took turn driving the boat while the other assisting passengers or serving rum punch, beer or sodas. When he was driving the boat; happily he wiggled his hip following the rhythm of the blasting music. Soon, everyone start to move their head left to right following the music too.
They do serve rum punch on board the boat. Be ready when in Turks and Caicos for they serve you rum punch everywhere you go and all day and night.  It could get in to you,  then,  there is a music. The next thing you know; you can't help but dance your heart out following the music beat. That is how much fun vacation in Turks and Caicos was for us or for me.
The destination of the snorkeling trip is to a small uninhabited island. But the beach is so pretty. Once the boat is anchored on the beach,  everyone can do what ever they want; walking by the beach, swimming, watching iguanas, snorkeling or just chill on board the boat. The rum punch kept on pouring in.  After swimming and walking by the beach; we sat on the roof top of the boat. Steven said; 'I feel so relax now!' Well, whose not! There are the aqua blue water around us as far as eyes could see while the sun is shining. Suddenly a rainbow appeared on the horizon. So pretty and we just soaked in the breathtaking environment and felt so good.
Have you ever tried a 'conch meat'! Yes, those pictures below are the conch shells.  I have not had it until on board this snorkeling trip. They serve conch salad with Doritos chips on this snorkeling trip. It is surprisingly delicious! The conch meat was cut up in a small pieces and mixed with cut tomatoes. One of the tourists who sat next  to me told me to put the conch salad in the Doritos package a long with the content and squeeze the package with your hands so that the chips crushed into a small pieces, then scoop up the mix chips and conch salad with a plastic spoon. Agghhh, after a few spoons, it's time for a rum punch again! What a treat!
On the way back to the hotel and on the boat, well they drop us off in front of the hotel by the beach; it was time to dance. After a few cups of rum punch; it does not matter where your spouse is; as he was too relax on the roof top of  the boat so I was dancing with other girls and kids, well we kind a dance all together in a circle.  It was so much fun.
I will definitely do this snorkeling trip on board Captain Mo's and his assistant Dre's boat again when in Turks and Caicos.
Wild Flowers
O wild flowers!
Could my tears save your tiny petals
Could my rage save your broken little branches
Could this sob bring back those butterflies
O wild flowers!
my heart is pounding now you are calling
while I am sleeping
whispering my name, I hear in a distance
O wild flowers!
my best friend
I can see you through the glass window
and
you can see me from below
flirt as the wind blows
dances as saying hello
every morning
every day
O wild flowers!
if only everyone know
if only everyone understand
if only everyone see
 I drawn in happiness
just looking at you, like none other
I smother with joy
just seeing from a distance, like never before
My heart is beating fast
wondering if you have grown taller
or another color
O wild flowers!
I cried for you today
I promise
your sweet colorful tiny petals
will cover my garden
once again....
5 Do or Die Essential Items
5 Do or Die Essential Items
White House Black Market cropped jeans
Fekkai hair shampoo
Fresh scented candle
sephora.com
When I received an email from Alexandra from Man Crates to do a collage of 5 Do or Die Essential Items; I knew I had to do this project.
Who and what is Man Crates?
"We are a new company that ships awesome gifts for men in custom wooden crates! At Man Crates it is our mission to end the difficulties that have long been associated with buying gifts for men."
I never used polyvore.com before and this was my first time using it. And I love it very much. My apology if the collage board on the blog is not perfect.
So let me tell you why I picked these items as my '5 do or die essential items.'
The ripped cropped blue jeans.
I literally wear blue jeans everyday. I find it wearing a pair of good jeans is very practical and comfortable for everyday to go use. It can look sexy if you know what to pair it with. I usually wear my jeans with a simple top and with a statement accessories. The ripped one can look sexy and elegant too, if it is not too much of a rip.
A good candle.
In my home I put candle in the family room, living room and bedroom. I am crazy being in room with a lovely smell of candles. My favorite is the one that is not too strong but infused with verbena, rose and lavender. To me it is like being in a flower garden. This Fresh grapefruit candle is so divine; it will make your room smell fresh and elegant.
Aromatherapy Body and Massage Oil
I love anything aromatherapy like massage oil and scrub body soap. My favorite is the aromatherapy balm from Badger (here). I could not find it at Polyvore so I found this similarly. I have a sensitive nose that I smell anything and anywhere I go. And sometimes it made me nauseous; Badger soothing relief balm is the remedy for me. I have it in my purse and in the drawer next to my bed.
Fekkai Argan Repairing Shampoo.
I have been using anything with Argan oil shampoo lately. I use the argan conditioner, the oil on my scalp and on my face. But Fekkai Argan Shampoo does gives a healthy looking to my hair. My hair has gotten thinner these days, with this shampoo my hair looks fuller and less falls out and looks shinier.
Keurig Coffee Brewer
A friend of mine gave me a single Keurig Coffee Brewer about a year a go. I must admit that I use it every morning when at home. If I could take it with me traveling, I would. But I think my husband would not be very happy with the arrangement. Not only it is practical by just putting water, put the coffee powder cup, close it, put your mug under the coffee drip, press the button; it's done and you got a delicious hot coffee. And you never have to wash the coffee machine. Plus there are tons of flavored coffee to choose from.
So these are 'my 5 do or die essential items'.
What are yours?
Thank you so much for stopping by!
Rustic Coffee Table
Just wanted  to update that the rustic coffee table arrived yesterday.
I could not be more happier with this coffee table. I have been imagining this kind of coffee table even before we moved into this new home. I searched high and low for this coffee table and I found it through online (here).
This home is starting to look like a real home, although it has not finished a 100%.  It is a little bit overwhelming for both of us since this home is almost 4 times larger than our previous home. We changed everything in side the house. The only thing we did not change is the structure. So it took us almost 6 months to do it and still there are things need to be done.
Anyways, let's see the coffee table!
  I am very excited for the new chairs bought through Ebay a long time a go. Last seen, here.  The chairs are so old that when pulled out the nails, the cover and the lining material; they were crumbled like a powder. And it was a lot of dust. I can't believe that I finished demolished the cover out of the wooden frame. Tomorrow I am going to take the chairs to be repaired. It needs to be tightened, then I am going to paint it the frame then I am thinking to do the  reupholster myself. They are going to be put where those two chairs are.
I found this picture from the old archive, a picture of the new home when we just bought it. It was still a lot of snow outside. It was last February. As you can see the old home has a beautiful white marble floor but my husband 'Steven' did not like it so we put a hard wood floor on top of it. We have not put the mantel on as you can see from picture on the right. And I am looking for ideas on Pinterest on how to decorate a mantel. Should I put a large mirror, a sun burst mirror or a painting. I have not decided yet. I am waiting for the mantel to be installed first.
I really love the rustic coffee table. In the beginning I wanted a rustic dining table just like the coffee table's surface. But it is way over our budget so we found this one within our budget and we love our dining table now. So what do you think about the rustic coffee table?  I know it is not everyone's favorite coffee table. As for me, I love mixing rustic and luxury like mixing it with a golden picture frame mirror and it sits on top of Hollywood style area rug that that in a certain angle the pattern of the rug is shiny. So I love the play of rich and rustic.
Will re post the whole living room when the two chairs are finished. And oh, with the mantel also.
Thank you so much for stopping by!
