January '13 Journal Picture {Collage}

Welcome to a New Year 2013 !
I started this brand new year with an interior picture collage that I always enjoy doing and created yesterday.

I love a small arrangement or vignette on the table in the corner of a room. Do you see the small white vase decorated with small golden metal leaves sits on top of pilling books ? I think it's just pretty. The golden antique clock is grandiose  and stunning looking.

I hope you had a fantastic New Year's eve celebration with family and friends. So let's start this brand new year with peace, love and many success to Us all.

My Butterfly Paintings Series

These are my Butterfly paintings series I mentioned in my last post {here}.

One of my new year resolutions is that I will be painting more often among many others like; 1. getting more fit and going to the gym regularly 2. eating more healthy diet. I have not had any specific task for this blog just yet but definitely I need to work on getting more followers. I need to be more serious and set a goal about this and plan on what I need to work on systematically.  I am happy about this blog so far. In the end what most important is that I truly enjoy doing it. Beside the endless positive outlook I receive from creating and posting this blog; I will continue perfecting it to get where I want it to be. One baby step at a time.

Oh yes! 'The Butterfly paintings!"

I think I put too many butterflies images here but I really like them. Can't decide which one to put on this post. They are about 47 beautiful pictures. Don't worry!  Only two more to go.

I can't wait to put those painting materials out and paint more butterfly like these.

I shall see you next year and 'HAPPY NEW YEAR 2013 BEST OF LUCK!' And thank you so much for your continous support and for following this beautiful journey of mine.!

Gold Leaf White Cups and Butterfly Painting (DIY)

I have not been painting for a while now. Suddenly I have a sudden urge to paint again and when opened a drawer I found this butterfly painting that I did a long time a go. They are 5 series of butterfly paintings. Upon looking and examining them; thought to myself that they are really beautiful. I did not know why I just kept them in the drawer for all this time.

I can't help myself to take a photo of the butterfly painting. I happened to have a frame that I spray painted a long time a go. So I put the butterfly drawing in the blue frame.

The white cream cups bought in a thrift store in Florida. I have 6 of them. I brought 2 of them to New York to practice to gold leaf them. I posted another gold leaf DIY on a wine goblets (here). I think they are quite lovely to display and to put flowers arrangement in.

Do you see the delicate gold leaf particles after brushing off of the cup ? Complete tutorial {here}

I do hope you had a fantastic Christmas celebration and I wish you a Happy New Year 2013 !

Thank you for reading ? Have a nice week end Everyone !

Vintage Blue & White Cake Stand

Perhaps we are all familiar with these white and blue china and pottery that we have seen them in a beautiful interior magazine or in a museum.

White and Blue ceramic was first produced in the Middle East during 9th century. Then China fully adapted the white and blue ceramic for many centuries during their Dinasties reign. More stories (here). Then during the 17th century European ceramic porcelain factory started to adapted this color and pattern called Chinoiserie. Meissen in Germany, Delft in Holland and England starting to copy this chinoiserie pattern and color.

Blue and white china and pottery are often and still produce and being displayed in a modern home interior and decor today. It is a classic ancient object, copy repeatedly that truly makes a today's interior beautiful and elegant.

Inspired by the collection from pinning boards I collected in Pinterest called 'Blue & White Love' (here),  I was intrigued to create a vintage white and blue cake stand.  I have drilled many vintage plates  to create one of a kind cake stand for sale in my Etsy store before. But never I imagined that these blue and white porcelain china was very hard to drill. I was determined to kept on drilling and extra careful so they will not break. I can only imagine the beauty of it when they stacked together as a cake stand kept me going on drilling. Literally when finished the palm of my right hand between the thumb and index finger were sore and red from holding the drilling machine too long.

Never the less I am so happy that I did not break any of them despite it seems forever just to drill a small hole to the other side of the plate.

Take a look at this cake stand. Don't you think it is beautiful ?

Crustless Broccoli Quiche

I went to visit my mother in-law often just to kill the time when our home did not have power for 11 days  during Hurricane Sandy. Sometime I went there to have a shower; other occasion to do laundry and often we ended up having a cup of tea and lunch in her kitchen. One day she offered me a Broccoli Quiche with salad for lunch. I was never a big fan of Broccoli Quiche; but this time I love the Broccoli Quiche she gave me. Since then I always wanted to make Broccoli Quiche. So last night I made one and today I am having a Crustless Broccoli Quiche with Arugula Balsamic Vinaegrette salad for lunch.  I must say it is a perfect meal for lunch. It is so easy to make and so delicious.

::Recipe::

Crustless Broccoli Quiche

~ 1 tablespoon canola or extra virgin olive oil
~  3/4 cup chopped onion
~ 3-1/2 cups broccoli florets (no larger than 1 inch)
~ 1/2 cup chopped red bell pepper (here I am using yellow bell pepper)
~ 4 large eggs
~ 2 large egg whites
~ 1 cup low fat milk
~ 1/3 cup all purpose flour
~ 1/4 tsp ground black pepper
~ 1/2 tsp garlic powder
~ 1/2 tsp dried leaf oregano
~ 1/2 tsp salt
~ 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese or a cheddar blend
~ paprika (optional)

Heat oven to 350 deg. Spray a 9 inch square baking pan with nonstick cooking spray or baking spray

In a saute pan over medium-low heat, saute the onion in the oil until tender. Add the broccoli florets and bell pepper and saute, stirring for a bout 3 minutes, until broccoli is bright green and just begins to become tender.

Using a blender or a whisk, blend the eggs, egg whites, milk, flower, pepper, garlic powder, oregano, and salt until smooth.

Arrange the broccoli and onion mixture evenly over the bottom of the prepared pan. Top with the shredded cheese. Pour the egg mixture over all. Sprinkle lightly with paprika (optional)

Bake to 30 to 40 minutes, until set. Cool for 5 to 10 minutes on a rack.

Good Luck !
